N°rdic Meta Fest
the first Meta Festival in Russia.
Meta Festival is a festival that binds together artists from different areas on the same platform — musicians, dancers, and visual artists. The idea behind this project is to extend the experience of music and arts by erasing boundaries and reconstructing the audience’s ways of perception. Meta Fest can’t be defined as a music festival or a visual art festival, it welcomes diverse forms of arts and allows them to be freely presented on the same platform.
Nordic Meta Fest is a festival hosting musicians from all five Nordic countries, combining their soundscapes with the works of Russian visual artists. This year N°rdic Meta Fest will present 8 different music acts from Northern countries — Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.
The festival will take place on May 21-22 in St. Petersburg and on May 28-29 in Moscow.
electro-pop / indie-pop
Norwegian-Spanish duo with catching melodies
trip-hop / electro-rock
Masters of icy melodies best know for Twilight Saga and Michael Mann's Miami Vice soundtracks
The band which comprises Oslo-native guitarist Jørgen Berg Svela and Madrid-born cellist and singer Teresa Bernabé Martín have been carving out a name for themselves with their infectious sound since the release of their debut single in 2014. Since then they’ve gone from strength to strength, featuring on the likes of Wonderland, The 405 and DIY Music, alongside securing coveted airplay on BBC Radio, Amazing Radio, NRKP3 in Norway and Radio3 in Spain. The duo also boosts a nomination for «Newcomer of the Year» in the critically acclaimed magazine GAFFA, and it’s not hard to understand why. Their debut-album «Keep Bleeding Keep Breathing» was produced by Norwegian Grammy Winner Øyvind Gundersen and has received praise in both Norway and UK. BLØSH have already supported the likes of Oh Land (DK) & Broen and with a live-band consisting of members from Team Me, Atlanter, Mikhael Paskalev & Siri Nilsen they are sure to rip up stages across Europe in 2016.
Best known for their songs «Eyes on Fire» from the Twilight Saga and «Sweep» from Michael Mann's «Miami Vice», over 16 years of its existence, the band has released six full length albums and dozens of singles, reached the top of the mainstream and turned underground composing soundtracks for independent documentaries. BF consisted of ten musicians, and just two, was close to shoegaze, trip-hop and classic rock, was released at the English label Moshi Moshi and the giant Virgin Records. The band kept silent for a while, and in 2015, the DPC label informed the public: Blue Foundation are recording a new long-awaited album in their studio in New York. Blue Foundation’s music keeps exciting the audience with their constant search and experiments. Each song is a statement which finds response from listeners around the world. The band is coming to Russia together with their VJ.

Sóley has been wowing audiences around the globe with her dark, fairytale song craft since 2010. After the «Theater Island» EP (2010) announced her as a solo musician, the fantastical, sepia-toned alt-pop tunes of debut full-length «We Sink» (2011) won her a massive, devoted fanbase. Having studied piano and later composition at the Icelandic Art Academy, Sóley Stefánsdóttir, who was formerly a member of the band Seabear, released a short EP entitled «Krómantík» in 2014, comprised of piano works originally composed for various theater/film productions, and her latest sophomore album «Ask The Deep» — in early 2015. Still drawn to dark, nocturnal themes «Ask The Deep» sees the bespectacled multi-instrumentalist branch out musically, both charting new sonic territory – and fighting the devil inside. Often inspired by poetry, Sóley’s tunes are the musical equivalent to dark fairytales, lucid dreams and childhood nightmares.
Adam Evald is a musician from Malmö, Sweden. He sings openly about the emotional trials of life. His songs describe the sudden death of love, piercing betrayal and how loneliness and grief can swallow you whole. With a small chamber ensemble (violin, cello, double-bass and piano) he has created a dynamic musical world where hopelessness battles hope; sad songs in major struggle against humble songs in minor. His musical expression is very precise and the level of honesty is appealing. He has the ability to catch your attention with subtleties, not only in his lyrics and in the way he has arranged the instruments, but also in his million-colored gestures on stage.
The band was formed in 2009 in Gothenburg, where Fredrik Karlsson and Anja Linna were both studying at the university. Having played for the first time in the cellar of a Christian home for students, they decided not to separate. After releasing two successful LPs, in 2012 Solander went to the main festival of young and independent music, SXSW in Austin (USA) and toured extensively on both sides of the Atlantic. While working on their third album, Solander suffered a personal tragedy, therefore Monochromatic Memories released in 2014 is not only dedicated to the pristine nature, but also is influenced by this sense of loss. However, these songs are a meshing of moods both sad and joyous — Solander’s music is a search for higher grounds and deeper forests to explore. After the album’s release the band re-visited SXSW and toured the US again, followed by a pause — to give birth to their son. The gig at Nordic Meta Fest will be Solander’s first performance in Russia.

Cats of Transnistria
experimental dream pop / shoegaze
Slow and hypnotic music, filled with both experimental noise and lots of sensitivity and softness
Norwegian Einar Stray started playing music in 2006. He recorded the first song in his bedroom experimenting with sound, and eventually created a whole Einar Stray Orchestra, today known far beyond Norway. In Russia, they were the opening act for the legendary Múm. This time Einar Stray comes as a solo act to show why the orchestra is named after him. He is multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and performer, and even a great actor judging by his videos. He plays the guitar and piano so brilliantly — if not replacing a couple of people, certainly making a big impression. Much has been written about Einar Stray Orchestra, from «Track of the Day» about Politricks from the last album of the same name to the «Artist of the Week» in the British magazine Q and Vinyl District, and he rarely tours solo, so his concerts in Russia are the opportunity to see something really unusual.
Phantom is the fruit of love of two artists, music lovers, geeks, misfits and treadmill rebels, who funnel their existence in the time-space-continuum into something of a new media spiced black magic.
It all started in a cave underground and outside of Helsinki, in the fortress island 18th century bastion, that, some say, inhabits some deeply disturbed Russian ghosts.
After drinking way too much coffee and playing with their musical toys together, the slightly jazz, glitch and acid influenced pair decided to join forces. They merged into creating sounds to summon the stories of the dead and the unheard into a somewhat haunting mixture of alternative pop, nu-trip hop and electronica.
The band performs with some pretty rad multi-dimensional instruments built in their laboratory — the UFO (Ultrasonic Frequency Oscillator) midi-controller and Z Vector, real time visual projection software using Kinect cameras and audio data. Watch the magic come to life at Nordic Meta Fest!
Cats of Transnistria
Cats Of Transnistria is a hypnotic, experimental dream pop duo from Helsinki. Tuomas Alatalo and Henna Hietamäki create surprisingly large soundscapes with just one guitar, vocals and organ. The songs take their listener to far away places and eerie vocals resonate on deep emotional level. The fresh duo has aroused a lot of buzz around the world with their EP and single-releases and they have performed for example at Flow Festival 2015. Cats Of Transnistria’s debut album was released by Soliti Records March 2016.
